How to Get Around
Taxis and Jeeps are the preferred modes of transport, but the hill town is best explored on foot. Autos are also available in plenty, but rates need to be negotiated. Buses ply between all important points of this hill station.
When to Visit
At 2,240 m above sea level, the climate is generally cold. The mercury swings between 0?C to 10?C in winter, going up to a pleasant 25?C in summer. The tourist season starts in April and continues through June and then the rain sets in.
Ooty becomes sought after again from September through November. During the season, Ooty is crammed with people and cars and everyone is out to fleece you. So, if you do not mind the rain and think you could manage with raincoats and umbrellas, then Ooty is waiting.
